Edinburgh Airport Managing director moves on

2010-05-26 17:56:16

Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) has appointed Edinburgh Airport managing director Gordon Dewar as its new chief executive officer.

Kamal Ahmad, BAC chairman, said that Dewar had brought unprecedented growth at the helm of Edinburgh Airport. He was also the managing director of Glasgow Airport besides assaying commercial, general management and business development roles, BAC said in a statement.

Dewar has over 20 years’ experience in the transport industry and held a number of senior management positions with leading transport operators.

According to the BBC, Dewar, the man at the helm of the only UK airport to register growth last year, has handed in his notice as managing director of Edinburgh Airport and is excited about his new role in Bahrain.

Dewar is experienced in airport expansion and capacity building and has successfully launched a £40 million terminal extension at Edinburgh Airport.

The Scotsman quoted Dewar, 44, as saying that his decision to leave so quickly, less than two years after moving from Glasgow Airport, had not originally been part of his plan.

“It’s a lot sooner than I thought it would be. My only real thinking before this opportunity came up was that I’d definitely want to go overseas after this experience. I thought that would probably be two or three years from now, but this very unique opportunity has come up,” he said.
