Edinburgh Rail and Tram Interchange Approved
2010-05-06 18:48:41The £43 million Edinburgh tram and rail interchange is all set to go.
The Network Rail development will be aimed at linking trains on the Edinburgh-Fife line with tram services, helping to improve transport facilities for local people and passengers at Edinburgh Airport.
According to the Edinburgh Evening News, the project is scheduled to get underway in the autumn and should take about 12 months to complete.
Located at Gogar, the new station will provide the main rail link to Edinburgh Airport.
"We are pleased the city council is minded to approve and we are currently working with the local authority to obtain the necessary legal agreements," a spokesperson for Network Rail said.
Trams are on their way back to the streets of Edinburgh after more than 50 years, with the first new vehicle arriving from Germany to be placed on public display in the city last month.
